The competition will restart next month, with Aston Villa v Sheffield United and Manchester City v Arsenal kicking off the comeback, subject to government approval.

It’s also been announced that if things go according to plan, a full round of fixtures will be played on the weekend of June 19-21.

The games are set to take place behind closed doors with the matches being broadcast across Sky Sports, BT Sport, BBC Sport or Amazon Prime.

The BBC will, in fact, air four live matches for the first time since the Premier League began in 1992.

Discussing the unusual move, Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said:

“The Premier League and our clubs are proud to have incredibly passionate and loyal supporters.

“It is important to ensure as many people as possible can watch the matches at home.”

Sky Sports is set to show 64 matches live and make 25 available free to air.

However, plans for the Premier League’s comeback are subject to the UK continuing to make progress in its fight against coronavirus.

The league was postponed back in March, with Liverpool on the cusp of winning their first title in the Premier League era.
