Maupay Urges Seagulls Belief

Brighton’s Neal Maupay admits it will be tough to get anything from Saturday’s trip to Liverpool but feels, with belief, “anything can happen”.

The Seagulls are set to face the European champions at Anfield having lost back-to-back Premier League games.

A 3-1 defeat at Manchester United was followed by a 2-0 home reverse to high-flying Leicester City and a trip to Merseyside to take on Jurgen Klopp’s table-toppers was the last thing manager Graham Potter would have wanted.

The south-coast outfit will be up against a side that has dropped just two points all season and sit eight clear of the second-place Foxes in the standings.

There is one crumb of comfort for Brighton as the Reds have not been at their very best in recent times and were held to a 1-1 draw by Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday night – a result that means their progress to the knockout stage of Europe’s elite club competition will go to the final game with Salzburg.

Whether that will be on the home side’s minds at the weekend only time will tell but Maupay has urged Brighton to take a positive mindset to the north west to try and pull off what has almost become mission impossible.

“You know anything can happen – football is crazy – so we just need to believe and see if we can go there and get a result,” he said.

Even a below-par Liverpool have been too good for teams over the past few weeks and Klopp’s charges seem to find a way of winning even when things are not quite clicking.

Maupay is aware of what they will face next time out but hopes to come away with something to show for their efforts.

“We know it will be really tough for us but it is a tough league anyway so we just need to keep working, believing in what the manager wants to do, in our quality and our strength and we can get a result,” he added.
